Speech & Language Therapy
Providing evaluations and ongoing therapy to children and adults
MRI speech therapists provide evaluations and ongoing therapy to children and adults. Certified therapists work closely with the family, the client’s physician and other health care practitioners setting treatment goals that are realistic and consistent with the client’s needs. Therapists work with clients and their families to obtain an optimal level of functioning.
Who needs speech and language therapy?
Children or adults who exhibit the following might need speech therapy:
- are not using two-word sentences by age two
- are not speaking as much or as clearly as their same-age peers
- do not understand or recognize common objects
- cannot follow simple instructions
- do not say their first word by age one
- have difficulty with feeding or swallowing such as coughing/choking when eating or drinking
We offer speech and language therapy for a wide range of disorders including but not limited to articulation, language, oral-motor functioning and feeding, stuttering, Autism, Down Syndrome, voice, neurological disorders, stroke, Apraxia and delayed development.
What does therapy involve?
Therapy involves one-on-one direct treatment and home programming. Developmental information for activities that can implement between therapy sessions is also provided. Family involvement is a critical component of therapy.
*All speech therapy services are provided by Masters level speech-language pathologists who have their Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Some therapists are also credentialed as Early Intervention (EI) Specialists and are enrolled as providers of EI services. MRI Speech is partially funded by United Way.
