providing services to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities
MRI (Macon Resources, Inc.), a non-profit organization in Decatur, Illinois, that provides services to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities. MRI was formed through the consolidation of Progress Resource Center and Macon County Rehabilitation Facilities in 1988 to provide comprehensive rehabilitative training programs and support services to individuals who have a developmental disability, mental illness, or other disabling condition. In January 2015, Independence Pointe (formerly an Easter Seals affiliate) merged with MRI to provide a system of coordinated services to fully support the diverse needs of the individuals and families living in Central Illinois. In 2018, Independence Pointe changed its name to Kids Connection.
Our simple, yet focused mission to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities drives our programming. Kids Connection programs include children’s prevention and home visiting, daycare, and after-school care, and summer camps. MRI offers opportunities for adults including case management, residential services, life skills training, vocational training, job placement, and volunteerism to achieve a meaningful place in our community.
Every year MRI helps people attain employment in the community, effect system change through self-advocacy, move to more independent living arrangements, volunteer to help other community services, and achieve other personal goals that build confidence and self-esteem. MRI has continued to build community relationships and contribute to the community’s growth. MRI has expanded services by creating job opportunities through Jan-Pro Janitorial and Lawn Care, License Plates, and other manufacturing contracts. These activities have served to educate the public about what MRI does, but more importantly, these programs demonstrate the capabilities and potential of the people who participate in the training programs.
MRI is a community resource. Every dollar of their budget is contributed back to Decatur and Macon County. MRI is more than just license plates. MRI has limitless potential that will carry them forward in the pursuit of opportunity, equality, and innovation. MRI is building meaningful lives.
